Hi! My name is India, the white tiger. This is the story of my life. My family used to consist of my mother, my father, my brother and me. You see, l had a lot of friends in my life but my best friend was my brother. He taught me how to hunt and ambush prey, while remaining hidden. But alas, he was killed by a poacher named Dave. One day, he heard a gunshot and ran, but mistakenly fell into a well. The hunter saw him in the well and shot him. I had heard it all, but by the time I tried to help him, it was too late!

The hunt

The poacher wasn’t satisfied and returned again a few months later. One peaceful night, I was fast asleep, when a slight rustle in the bushes woke me up. I woke mother up, but she went back to sleep, thinking it was probably a squirrel. But then, we all heard heavy footsteps, and she said “RUN! RUN! It’s a man!” So, we all started running.

Though I could not see my mother, I kept on running and running as fast as I could with my father. But my father got caught in a net. He said, “Go! Keep on running. Don’t look back!” And that was the last time I ever saw them again.

Ellie, the elephant

After the incident, I remained on the run for my life. That night, I hid in a bush. I woke up to to find an elephant in front of me. I was frightened and chased her out of self-defense. I was so busy chasing that I didn’t notice a ditch and fell right into it.

I thought that the elephant would just leave me to die, but she threw a vine for me to climb. When I reached up, I thanked her and apologized. She said, “I help everybody except human beings.” Hearing that I asked, “Do you want to join me in taking revenge on the poachers?” She said, “Yes, of course. They killed my family too!”

Story of Ellie

The elephant then told her her story. “My name is Ellie. I was a little elephant when my family, and my cousin died. I had a grandma back then, and she was the matriarch of our family. We were looking for water as there was a drought in our area.

“We were walking and looking for water, when my grandma died because of thirst. She passed the leadership to my mother. Soon after, both my mother and her sister got shot in the leg by the bullets of a poacher, and she told us to go run, and we had to go away as we had no choice.

“We kept moving, even though we were all sad and depressed. Then, my mother’s cousin got caught in a trap. We still kept going. My cousin and I were the only ones left, but the poacher caught my cousin too. And now, I am the only one left.”

Ivan, the Gigantopithecus

Ellie and I were walking on a path when we saw a piece of string lying on the ground. We were not sure whether to touch it or not.

We then saw that there was a piece of meat, as well as a piece of jaggery on it. We were very tempted to eat it, and when we did, a trigger went off! And we found ourselves in a trap. But luckily a gorilla saved us by helping us out of the trap. He said “I will take you to our village.” We agreed–obviously, we needed help. He took us to this abandoned village where a lot of monkeys and apes lived. He said, “Let me show you our leader, Ivan,” and to our surprise it was a Gigantopithecus.

He roared, “You might prove to be useful to us. You see, my brother, Tampa, is a very bad king, and he now rules the neighbouring kingdom. We had placed a bet to see who is the strongest, and in my foolishness, I bet half of my kingdom. Now you need to help me retrieve my kingdom.”

I said that I needed time to prepare a plan for the fight and in return I asked for his help to exact revenge on the poacher, Dave. He said “Yes, I will give you one week.”

I was wondering how to get Tampa to fight me, when I realized that I don’t have to fight him. All I needed to do was to lure him into a trap.

The Gigantopithecus Ivan told me that he has friends in the bird kingdom. I told him what I needed, and my plan then fit perfectly in place.

I then started executing the plan. First, I lured Tampa into a trap by placing bananas in a big ditch the apes had dug in the ground. When Tampa fell in, the eagles from the bird kingdom poked his eyes out and killed him.

The revenge

I knew I could get the poacher Dave arrested if I could lure him into an area where the forest officers could catch him. But the problem was that Dave hunted in areas where the forest officers didn’t frequent much.

I then got a brilliant idea. Instead of getting him into where the forest officers were, I could bring the forest officers to him  by using myself. Just as I suspected, all the forest officers started following me to study ‘white tiger behavior’ and I lead them right to the poacher’s house. They arrested him at once. They then went inside his house to get his gun. But to their amazement, they found two tigers inside, which they released.

I was astonished to find that they were my parents! I could not believe my eyes.

Now, finally, I have my family and I am no longer alone. I can live my life happily with all my friends and family.
