Heatwaves have been surfacing in various places across the world. In India, temperatures have risen to over 50 degree Celsius in parts of the northern plains. That explains the sweltering heat in Delhi, where I live. Neighbouring states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Punjab are also suffering from the searing heat.

Climate change is not just about melting glaciers and the rising level of the seas; it is also about abnormally hot or cold temperatures during off season. It is worse for people who spend time outside in this heat. Over 800 fatalities caused by heatwaves have been reported in Mecca, and a large fraction of them are Indians. Central America and Mexico are sizzling in the heat too. On the other hand, some cities want some sunshine, but cannot have any. There has been incessant rain in London along with chilly winds. Montana in the USA has been suffering from cold draughts, with an unusually large amount of snowing in the Rocky Mountains in June!

Preaching about climate change, vandalizing paintings and monuments, and signing treaties will not help combat climate change. Immediate action is necessary on the part of both the government and the industries, and truly then will the Earth become a cooler place.
