Senior Inspector Pokhran was extremely annoyed. Two days before her retirement, she was saddled with a case. And what a ridiculous case it was! Jamin Joy had littered all over Marg Main Street and was refusing to pay the appropriate fine.

Jamin’s story was that he was transporting bags of rubbish from his aunt’s garment factory to the waste processing plant on the other side of town. He was speeding because he wanted to reach the plant before it closed for the day. But…

Inspector Pokhran knows that Jamin has a reputation for being lazy and irresponsible. But Jamin insists that he is telling the truth, and that the old lady must pay the littering fine, not him. Inspector Pokhran needs to hold someone responsible for the incident.

Who is at fault here and why?

Jamin Joy is at fault. When a vehicle is in motion, objects in that vehicle are in inertia of motion. The sudden brake would cause the objects to fall forwards, not backwards as he claims they did. He was obviously late and knew he wouldn’t make it to the recycling plant on time. So he stopped the vehicle midway, dumped the waste materials on the road and then tried to pin the blame on an old lady.
